Booking and Communicating with Your Models
The first step to successful practical training is clear communication. Confirm your model’s availability well in advance, including the date, time, location, and any fees or preparation requirements. A friendly reminder a day or two before the appointment can prevent last-minute cancellations and ensure your model is ready for their session.
Communication is a two-way street — be approachable and responsive. If your model has questions, provide clear answers. If you must adjust the appointment, notify them immediately. This level of professionalism not only builds trust but also mirrors the type of client communication you’ll need to master in your esthetics career.
Always Have a Backup Model
Even with the best planning, life happens. Models can cancel last minute or get sick, leaving you with gaps in your practical training. Having a backup model on standby ensures you can still complete your hands-on learning without losing valuable class time. It’s not just a safety net — it’s a reflection of your responsibility and preparedness as a future esthetician.
Why This Matters for Your Training
Practical training is designed to give you real-world experience. Missing model appointments can hinder your progress and impact your performance. In fact, students should be aware that consistent preparedness is tied to assessment outcomes. For example, in our Student Handbook (S.10C), students are reminded to have backup models for last-minute changes. Missing models can even result in deductions from your final class grade — highlighting the importance of accountability in your training journey.
Empower Your Learning
Think of each model session as an opportunity to sharpen your technique, build confidence, and develop client management skills. By prioritizing communication, confirming appointments, and planning ahead, you’re not only safeguarding your practical hours but also practicing the professionalism that will carry you through your career.
Did You Know?
At EIE Training Centre, 1 mark per missed model per class can be deducted from your final grade. This policy encourages students to stay proactive with bookings, maintain strong communication, and treat their models with respect — all essential habits for success in esthetics.
Your models are partners in your education. Treat them well, plan thoughtfully, and use every session to elevate your skills. Your future clients will thank you for it.
