Important Update: Canada Post Strike and Student Aid Mail Services

Sep 30 / Desiree Billey

To help minimize disruptions, here’s what you need to know:

Using Online Tools

  • No delays online: Electronic correspondence and e-Document Uploads through your Alberta Student Aid account are not affected by the strike.

  • Verification codes: If you are applying for Student Aid and have not yet verified your account, please use the online verification tools instead of requesting a mailed verification number. This will save you from long delays.

  • Digital services: Sign up for email correspondence in your Alberta Student Aid, MyLoan, and NSLSC.ca accounts. You can also set up direct deposit to avoid delays in receiving funds.

Paper Applications & Scholarships

  • If you currently use paper correspondence, you must send documents by courier at your own cost. Paper applications cannot be dropped off in person during the strike.

  • Scholarship cheques cannot be mailed during the strike and will be held until mail services resume. If you are in an emergency financial situation, you can email ae.albertascholarships@gov.ab.ca to request your cheque by courier. Expect up to three weeks for delivery.

For Educational Institutions

Institutions must also use courier services to submit disability grant refund cheques to the Program Financial Support unit.
