New! WorldSkills Legacy Scholarships - Skilled Excellence Scholarship

WorldSkills Legacy scholarships and awards are sponsored by WorldSkills Calgary 2009 and managed through the Alberta Heritage Scholarship Fund. The Legacy of Skilled Excellence Scholarship is designed to honour the immense contributions and leadership of Terry Cooke in promoting skilled trade and technology careers to young people in Alberta, and across the globe. Terry was a founding member of Skills Canada Alberta, and former Treasurer for WorldSkills International.

The scholarship recognizes students with exemplified exceptional dedication and talent in their trade or technology skill area. Valued at $5,000 per year, the scholarship supports the top scoring secondary student on Team Alberta at the Skills Canada National Competition in their chosen field for a maximum of 4 years.

How to Apply

Students must submit to Alberta Student Aid:

A completed application form, and
A copy of the Skills Canada Alberta letter of endorsement.

Air Access Bursary

The Air Access Bursary encourages students to enter high demand aviation programs to help meet future labour demands and strengthen the economy in Alberta.

Eligible students can receive up to $10,000 to help cover the costs of a full-time aviation/pilot training program in the current academic year at Mount Royal University.

Recipients are selected based on minimum eligibility criteria for the bursary, and any other additional criteria set by the post-secondary institution.

New for 2025-26! Alberta’s Government has increased the lifetime maximum an individual can receive from one to two bursaries. Applicants may now be eligible to receive one additional Air Access Bursary of $10,000 to complete an aviation program in the province.

Alex Decoteau Award of Honour

The Alex Decoteau Award of Honour recognizes the sacrifice of Canada's brave veterans and their families and supports them in their post-secondary pursuits in Alberta.

Valued at $5,000, this award helps meet the Alberta Government’s commitment to make it easier for Canadian veterans and their families to transition from service to the next steps in their careers. An individual may receive a lifetime maximum of two awards.

How to Apply

Submit the completed application form and all supporting documentation to Alberta Student Aid by October 31, 2025.

Aberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) provides various scholarships to apprentices and occupational trainees every year.

Parent/Guardian Access to Application Information

Students may want a parent(s)/guardian to assist with aspects of their scholarships and awards application and information. In accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (Alberta), Alberta Student Aid requires written consent to share personal information with a parent(s)/guardian.

High school awards counselors should inform students that a Consent to Disclose Personal Information form must be completed and submitted to Alberta Student Aid to disclose their personal information to a designated individual.
